The Awkward Meeting With My Competitor
Looking down on me is a mistake
He looked over at me, where I sat down on the long couch at the reception and waited for our turns to pitch to the management to bid for the construction project we were both vying for.
The second he entered, I could feel his eyes scanning over me to assess his unworthy-looking competitor.
I eased myself into my chair, unfazed by his stare.
The project manager and I had been speaking before he entered.
“Mr Ekens,” he called to the man. “Have you met Ms Lisa? He said, using his hands to gesture at me.”
“Both of you are bidding for the same project. You need to talk to her. Maybe you both can rub minds and even learn from each other.”
“Ah… Manager, she is a small girl; there is nothing to learn from her. I should be the one teaching her,” he replied. I could feel his eyes scanning me again.
“You are wrong, Mr Ekens. I have seen her company’s proposal and yours; her Company’s bid is much higher than yours. I don’t think you understand the job you are bidding for, your bid is ridiculously low. You have a lot to learn from her.”
